GitBrand vs enterprise DAM

Do you need a DAM, or do you need a link?

Enterprise digital asset management platforms are excellent at what they do: governing hundreds of thousands of files for hundreds of users. If that is your situation, buy one. If your situation is “people keep asking me for the logo”, GitBrand solves that today, for free. Answer five questions to see which one fits.

Five questions

Answer honestly about the next twelve months, not a five-year plan.

  1. Will more than 50 people actively use it?Uploading and managing, not just downloading a logo.
  2. Must approval workflows be enforced by software?Nothing is published until someone signs off inside the tool.
  3. Do you need an archive of thousands of files?Every campaign photo and video, not just the current identity.
  4. Do rights and expiry need tracking for compliance?Licensed imagery, usage windows, audit of who downloaded what.
  5. Do you need it live this week?A shareable page before the next request for the logo arrives.

Recommendation

GitBrand

Nothing here calls for a platform. You need the current identity, presented clearly, reachable by one link. That is exactly what a GitBrand repository is.

  • No governance signals selected. Change an answer to see how the recommendation shifts.

The honest split

A DAM and a brand repository solve different problems

Neither is a stripped-down version of the other. One governs a library; the other presents an identity.

When an enterprise DAM is the right call

You are governing a library, not sharing a brand.

Choose a full digital asset management platform when you have a large library with strict rights, an approval chain that must be enforced by software, many regional teams, or compliance requirements around who downloaded what. Those needs justify the price and the setup time.

  • 01Hundreds of users with different roles and regions
  • 02Licensed imagery with expiry dates and usage rights
  • 03Approvals that must happen inside the tool
  • 04An archive of every campaign asset ever produced

When a brand repository is enough

You want the current identity, reachable by one link.

Most designers, agencies, startups and marketing teams under fifty people have a smaller need: the current identity, presented clearly, reachable by one link. GitBrand is built for exactly that. It is not a stripped-down DAM; it is a different, simpler tool that fits the problem.

  • 01You want a page, not a platform
  • 02Your collaborators should not need accounts
  • 03Your brand fits in logos, colors, fonts, resources and a FAQ
  • 04You would rather start today than after a procurement cycle

Side by side

What each one gives you

The same needs, answered by an enterprise DAM and by a GitBrand repository.

Using both

The two do not compete for the same job

Some teams keep a DAM for the archive and use GitBrand as the public-facing brand page or press kit, because the link is easier to share and the page is indexable and readable by AI tools.

Inside the company

Enterprise DAM

  • Master archive of every campaign file
  • Rights, expiry and approval workflows
  • Accounts, roles and download audits
Outside the company

GitBrand repository

  • Current logos with SVG, PNG and JPG exports
  • Colors, fonts, a few resources and a FAQ
  • One link at gitbrand.com/your-brand, plus embed, QR and AI endpoints

What GitBrand does not do

We would rather tell you now than after you sign up

A short list, on purpose. If one of these is a hard requirement, the decision tool above already pointed you to a DAM.

No approval workflowsReviews and sign-off stay in the tools your team already uses.
No named download auditInsights count views and downloads per asset. They never say which person took what.
No design editorLogo exports to SVG, PNG and JPG are the only transformations. Design happens elsewhere.
No archive of thousands of filesA repository holds the current identity, not every asset ever produced.

FAQ

Questions people ask before choosing

Is GitBrand a Frontify, Bynder or Brandfolder alternative?

For small teams that need a shareable brand page, yes. For enterprises that need governance, workflows and large archives, no. The decision tool and the table on this page show where each fits.

Can I migrate later if we outgrow GitBrand?

Your assets are ordinary files you can download at any time, and your palette exports as CSS, SCSS, Tailwind, JSON, TXT and SVG. Nothing is locked in.

Does GitBrand have a free trial?

GitBrand has a Free plan, not a trial. It does not expire. Upgrade to Premium only if you need unlimited repositories, team seats, a custom domain or branding removal.

Can a DAM and a GitBrand repository point at the same files?

They are separate systems. The usual pattern is to keep the master archive in the DAM and upload only the current logos, colors, fonts and a few resources to GitBrand as the public-facing page.

Do visitors need an account to open a repository?

No. Public repositories open for anyone with the link, password-protected repositories ask for the password, and member-only repositories require the visitor to be a member. The link is the same in all three cases.

Publish the link today. Decide about a DAM later.

The Free plan covers five repositories, unlimited downloads and password-protected sharing. No procurement cycle, no onboarding project.
